Adventist Wheel: Relevance, Part 3

Dadu · 3 months agoI am 68 y/0, am an SDA lifer, and I have felt uncomfortable in our Church for a long time. I hid out as a SS leader in all our children's departments until they moved away. These days with the world's view of USA Christians, I am uncomfortable identifying as a Christian let alone as an SDA Christian. What is the point of the dogma and doctrine? Reading Karen Armstrong's religious history books has given me insights about what should be the point of religion. Supporting her efforts for the Charter for Compassion is what appeals to me the most right now. I have been attending the local Quaker Meeting for the past year. It is about addressing "that of God in everyone" no matter what they believe or where they come from; it is our experience of God in ourselves and sharing it with each other that matters. There is no complaining about the worship service when you participate in the worship hour of silence. Everyone meets together to "listen" for the Spirit of God in themselves and each other. They are very active in the community promoting peace and compassion. I do not feel alone and isolated there.
