I think it's unfortunate that we have confined worship to an event - on any day. I have some particular thoughts on "worship" that I'll put down and perhaps Gary will post it here.

Re: Worshiping the Sabbath vs Worshiping on the Sabbath

Travis - this is really an eye-opening revelation. So simple, yet so relevant. Thank you for sharing it with us!

For others, you'll find a rousing discussion on Travis' Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/not...

Re: Worshiping the Sabbath vs Worshiping on the Sabbath

Wow. Thanks to Travis for your candor.
I often think about Sabbath & Sabbath-keeping/worship myself. Being a pastor, I feel like Sabbath is especially complicated (I essentially I "work" every Sabbath).
One idea that has come to my mind regarding Sabbath is the fact that nowhere in the scriptures is worship specifically mentioned with reference to Sabbath. We are told to remember the sabbath (and implicitly remember the Creator God and his works on that day) - but never to "worship" on the Sabbath. I wonder what yanks our (Adventists) chains so much about talking about how we're supposed to worship on the Sabbath (rather than on other days). It makes sense to me that Sabbath is the day our community gathers for corporate worship - because most people don't work - but is it really ethically wrong to worship God on Wednesday or Friday or (dun dun dun...) Sunday?

I wonder if we do worship Sabbath just a bit - rather than the God of the Sabbath...
